Violin Teacher in Evergreen – Chelain Stocker

Originally from Cedar Rapids, IA, Chelain has been teaching both violin and piano for over 35 years.  She started working with students during her high school years and has continued teaching through her 4 years with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and 18 years with The Phoenix Symphony.  She recently relocated with her family to Evergreen from Scottsdale, Arizona.

Chelain’s focus with her teaching covers, most importantly, proper posture with the violin.  Her study with Dr. John Ferrell at the University of Iowa and then at the University of Arizona emphasized correct positioning.  Her preferred methods include the study of scales, etudes, and pieces as well as focus on positions and work on special material that a student would like to learn.  Special effort can be given to any school or orchestral material that requires fingering and interpretation.  She has provided many lessons for students working strictly on music for the various Youth Orchestras in which they have participated.  She also has a great deal of experience helping students get ready for auditions for Youth Orchestras or other regional and state programs.

Chelain maintained a reputation as one of the top violin teachers in the Phoenix area.  Chelain would welcome any students from the advanced beginner stage to adult levels.
