Andrew Dykema

Clarinet and Saxophone Instruction

Education: Andrew earned a B.A. from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN in 2006 with a double major in Music and Hispanic studies.  His academic career included studying abroad in Salvador and Sao Paulo, Brazil as a participant in the Council of International Education Portuguese Intensive and Bahia Programs.  He received a M.M. in clarinet performance from Lamont School of Music, University of Denver, with secondary study in wind conducting and literature.  While at DU Andrew had extensive performance experience on all clarinets and alto saxophone.  He was also selected to participate in a guitar chamber music master class with Oscar Ghiglia in July, 2008 in Siena, Italy.

Teaching Experience: Andrew was a graduate teaching assistant at Lamont School of Music from August 2006 until June 2008.  There he managed the Lamont Wind Ensemble, conducted rehearsals, and taught individual clarinet lessons to undergraduates.  Mr. Dykema currently teaches clarinet lessons at Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College in Denver, CO.  He was an instructor/resident assistant at the Exploration School in Norwood, MA from 2004-2006 and a teaching assistant at Macalester College, St. Paul, MN, during the 2005-2006 academic year.

Professional Performance Experience: Andrew currently performs with the Colorado Wind Ensemble on bass clarinet and as a section clarinet player.  He also performs with the Orion Winds, Denver, CO, as 2nd clarinetist.  Andrew has performed in the Lamont School of Music productions of Il Signor/Bruschino;The Talking Bird; Trouble in Tahiti; and Into the Woods. He performed in the Opera Colorado production of La Curandero chamber opera in May, 2007.  Other performance experience includes the Colorado Young Sinfonia production of Appalachian Spring, and the Denver Contemporary Chamber Players Inaugural production of The Soldier’s Tale.
